Directions

From Shenley Road turn down Furzehill Road, The BECC is on the right at the mini roundabout onto Shakespeare Drive. Look for the traffic sign to The BECC Children’s Centre at the junction of Shenley and Furzehill Roads.Other than the parking designated for Disability all our parking spaces are allocated to parents and children. The BECC has both a buggy and bike store.

Baby Café Local

Are you pregnant and interested in breastfeeding? Are you already breastfeeding and want to meet other mums? Need answers to breastfeeding questions? Why not join us at our new drop-in sessions for both pregnant and breastfeeding mums and their families. These sessions offer a friendly and relaxing environment to meet other mums plus access support from trained staff

Stay, Play & Sing back to top

A fun filled session which brings together all your children’s favorite activities. This session will encourage and support your child’s development in a safe and stimulating environment whilst also being a great opportunity for you and your child to make friends. Each week we will finish with a fun interactive half hour ‘Rhythm and Rhyme; music session. The aim of this is to encourage young children to listen to and join in with rhymes and songs, whilst exploring instruments and the sounds they make.

Baby Massage back to top

Baby Massage is run over 5 weeks by IAIM qualified instructors. You will learn: to massage your baby, using approved strokes and techniques and about the benefits of massage.

Crèche sessions are available for children aged 0 – 4 years whose parents/carers are attending services at the BECC Children’s Centre. It is essential that all parents/carers must remain on site while your child/children are in the crèche £ 1.00 per child per session is payable at The BECC Reception. A completed Children’s Centre registration form is required for each child prior to the session. Creche places will be confirmed 24 hours prior to your requested session. Priority will be given to children of parents attending services within the BECC.

The Baby Café is a network of drop-in sessions which support breastfeeding mothers. We believe that every breastfeeding mum deserves free, top quality help and support.

Jumpstart Practical Parenting back to top

A practical 4 week parenting programme for parents and children. Parents/carers and are encouraged to view their home as a positive learning environment for their children. Staff give parents ideas of how we can use everyday resources at home to extend their children’s learning and development whilst having fun with no expense what so ever.

Toy Library back to top

It works as an ordinary library enabling people to hire toys and equipment for short periods of time at very reasonable costs. To find out how to become a member pick up one of our Toy Library leaflets or speak to one of the Children’s Centre staff to find out more. You can pre-order toys and even get Home delivery!

Breastfeeding Social back to top

This service is run by volunteers trained by the Breastfeeding Network. Come along and meet other new mums, breastfeed your baby. Information and advice available as well as a book borrowing service.

Practical Parent Helpers Course back to top

This course will give parents/carers background information on how to become an effective parent helper within a school setting. This course will give you up todate information on how Schools work and the role of a parent helper. An excellent opportunity to those of you who would like to get back to work within an educational setting

Save a Life First Aid Course back to top

Learn how to save a child or baby’s life. You will be given an opportunity to practice doing Baby & Child Recovery, Baby & Child CPR and Baby& Child Choking – plus lots of relevant and important information regarding burns, cuts, head injuries etc.

A great opportunity for parents to get the chance to share information and give other parents valuable tips and strategies on how we can make parenting as enjoyable an experience as possible.

The Parenting Puzzle is a course which is run over 8 weeks. It encourages parents/carer’s to enjoy bringing up their children and how they can get the very best out of family life. It will enable parents/ carer’s to understand how our emotions can influence our actions and facilitators offer many practical ways of guiding children so they learn to handle their feelings and control their behaviour. Best suited for parents/carers of children aged 3 years and over.

24/7 Tools for Young Parents back to top

Practical Parenting Workshops aged 25 years and under. You will meet the Children’s Centre staff and a local Health Visitor to share your ideas and experiences with other young parents. Learn how to input your own ideas and cover topics that you feel are relevant to your own individual needs. We will also cover basic parenting skills, self care, ages and stages development, creative play ideas and healthy cooking.

Support for Parents of children with additional needs back to top

Is your child’s behaviour a problem? Are you worried about ADHD, Autism/ Aspergers, or additionals Needs? If you would like to talk in confidence and meet other parents experiencing similar challenges, then come along to this support group. Your child does not need to have a diagnosis or statement to attend this group. We are here to help and support you and your child.

About Boys Course (0–5 yrs) back to top

A four session programme for mothers with sons under the age of five. The course provides an opportunity for mothers to learn about their sons and to be able to recognise behaviours in their sons that may be as a result of being a boy, why boys do what they do and what motivates them. The course aims to give mothers increased understanding, techniques and confidence to support their sons through difficulties.

Music and Movement back to top

An energetic and fun activity for parents/carers and their children aimed at developing physical skills such as body control, balance, spatial awareness and movement. Children will be given the opportunity to climb over, crawl through and under apparatus, practice balls skills and take part in fun obstacle courses. We will also be doing different activities involving Music such as Singing and Sticky Kids which is an interactive session to help develop your child’s concentration and listening skills through music and movement.

Bumps and Babies back to top

An opportunity for mums to be and parents/carers of children under 18 months to meet up on a weekly basis in a safe and stimulating environment.
